Ombre Powder Brows: Better Results Than Microblading?

Achieving perfectly shaded brows is challenging and time-consuming. Many of us choose permanent makeup or semi-permanent options for an easier solution. You may know about microblading, as it’s the most well-known. Arguably, powder brows provide better results and cause less trauma to your skin.

Ombre powder brows are a semi-permanent solution to all of your brow shading dreams!

What are ombre powder brows?

Ombre powder brows are just one of several permanent makeup approaches. In these techniques, skilled estheticians use tattoo machines or blades to apply pigment to your eyebrows. After it’s healed, you’ll have gorgeously shaded brows that don’t quit!

How is it different from other brow-enhancing techniques?

Unlike microblading, which tries to fill in thinning or sparse brows with hair-like strokes, ombre is a different process. Your brow artist applies tiny pixel-like dots that vary in density to give the appearance of smoky powder brows. Instead of full, fluffy brows, you’ll enjoy a more subtle, finished effect on your brows.

Another significant difference is the hand tool used to apply ombre powder brows. Your esthetician uses a tattoo machine with a specialized cartridge for the process. They’ll find a pigment that compliments your skin tone and hair color for best results!

Once finished, you’ll have brows that look like they’ve been filled in with your favorite eyebrow pencil.

What does the process look like?

You can expect to spend two to three hours in the salon at an ombre powder brow appointment. Your esthetician will apply a numbing cream after removing any makeup you came in with. We recommend not using any cosmetics in the area before your session.

While your skin is numbing, they’ll create a framework around your brows to outline where pigment is applied. Before the actual application, you’ll get to approve the shape and color of your brows. Because your esthetician is applying small dots of pigment, the process takes some time to apply.

Once finished, your brows will be tender and darker than before. Over the next week to ten days, you’ll want to avoid getting them wet or hitting the gym. They may also scab over while healing. This is normal.

When your brows heal, they’ll have a natural gradient effect and a finished look that you’ll adore!

What are the benefits of ombre powder brows?

Ombre powder brows are perfect for any skin type and tend to heal better with less scar tissue than microbladed brows. We love this approach to cosmetic tattoos because it’s a customizable and efficient way to achieve your aesthetic goals. Beyond these reasons, there are some other benefits we think you should consider!

Ombre powder brows create a natural, but enhanced look

Working with your brow artist, you can decide on the intensity of the pigment in your brows. It provides a natural and enhanced look, especially if you already have full brows. You’ll have runway-ready brows 24/7! Your artist will adjust the density of the pixels as your brows move from dense hair to fine hair for a natural look.

Customization is an advantage for ombre powder brows

Your esthetician will customize your brows to fit your aesthetic goals. They’ll adjust the shape, color, and density based on your preferences. A skilled brow artist will create a look that compliments your face and is ready to slay.

The healing time is shorter compared to microblading

Ombre powder brows are much less invasive than microblading as a cosmetic tattoo solution. Following your esthetician’s advice, your brows should fully heal in four to six weeks. Microblading, by contrast, can take six to ten weeks to recover fully.

Little maintenance after a touch-up

You’ll visit for a touch-up appointment, usually a few weeks after your initial session. After that, there’s very little maintenance involved in keeping your fierce look. Typically, you’ll enjoy the benefits of the process for around 18 months before you notice fading. At that point, going in for another touch-up will restore them to their glory!

Maintaining your ombre powder brows

Investing in ombre powder brows is 100 percent worth it! Properly maintaining your look gives you the best chance of long-lasting, fabulous brows.

Keep your eyebrows dry for the first few days

You'll want to keep your brows dry for the first seven to ten days after your initial appointment. Avoid exercise, sweating, and sunlight to preserve the pigment in your skin. Makeup can also irritate the area where you’ve had pigment applied. Keep your new brows clean and moisturized with healing ointment during the first few days.

Cleanse your eyebrow area regularly

As with any moderately invasive procedure, your skin is susceptible to infection. Most estheticians provide an anti-bacterial cream for the first 24 hours. After that, use a gentle soap provided to you by your artist and warm water to cleanse the area. Gently dry your skin and apply the provided healing ointment to speed the healing process.

Try your best to avoid too much sun exposure

UV rays can degrade the pigment in your skin, so avoid exposure to these damaging rays. In fact, direct sunlight can change the color of the pigment! Some recommendations suggest avoiding direct sunlight for up to four weeks after your treatment.

Tanning beds fall into this category as well. They’ll damage your skin and can slow down the healing process.

If you must go outside, wear a hat and use a daily SPF.
