What is microblading?

For those who may not be as familiar with the process, microblading is a semi-permanent way to enhance your eyebrows. Using a microblading pen and some pigment applied to the surface layers of your skin, your eyebrows are brought to their full potential with results that leave you smiling for over a year!

It’s all about eyebrow fullness and architecture!

The goal of microblading is to achieve the perfect shape and fullness to your brows so that they complement your facial features – so you can say “adios!” those viral soap brows! Sure, plucking and tweezing individual hairs may get you your preferred shape for a couple weeks, but microblading enhances the look and depth of your brows thanks to the skill of a trained esthetician.

Unlike tattooing, microblading works on a more superficial level of the epidermis

Microblading can often be compared to the process of tattooing, and while there are some similarities, it’s also a little different. It’s important to note that microblading does not penetrate deep into the layers of your skin. Instead, each blade deposits pigment just below the epidermis to provide longer lasting results – but not results that will stay with you for years to come.

Are microblading and microshading the same treatment?

While the names are deceptively similar, they are not interchangeable. Each service consists of a completely different application technique to provide either a full or ombre-like shade to the eyebrows. Microshading uses a culmination of tiny dots to accomplish the ombre look, whereas microblading uses blades to mimic the natural hair look of your brows. The Naked Cupcake will be offering microshading, ombré style brows as well as traditional brows, and a combo of the two! By offering both, we can give you the look and results for your esthetic and what would heal best for your skin type.

What to expect during your microblading appointment

It’s time to get excited! Let’s clear the air and create a solid understanding of what to expect when you go into your microblading appointment.

They’ll cleanse and sanitize the brow area

Once you’ve settled in and asked any outstanding questions you may have, your brow technician will begin by sanitizing your brows. There is no pain or discomfort during this time, it’s just a critical step to ensure that there is no availability for infection.

Your esthetician will map out your desired brow shape

This is the fun (yet time consuming) part! Your esthetician will use this time to form the shape of your brow using precise techniques and measurements. All of this effort is to ensure that your brows come out looking even in shape, placement, and size by the end of the session.

Your brow specialist will then get to work microblading your brows

After your stamp of approval is given to the look and shape of your brows, the microblading process will begin. In most scenarios, a numbing cream will be applied so that any discomfort you may have felt will be reduced to almost nothing.

Once completed, your brow specialist will clean off your newly beautified brows and offer some best-practice tips to ensure the perfect healing process.

Other frequently asked questions

Not familiar with the eyebrow microblading process? No worries – here are some frequently asked questions that we get and feel like you may want to know!

eyebrow tattoo

Is microblading like a tattoo?

While both processes utilize the power of pigments placed in the skin, microblading doesn't use a needle that rapidly moves in and out of the skin. Instead, this eyebrow “tattoo” uses a set of very small razors on a pen-like apparatus to deposit pigments into the top most layers of the epidermis. This technique removes the need for a machine. Additionally, since this process is only enacted on the top layers of the epidermis, you can modify your brow shape in a shorter time frame as fashion and beauty trends change.

Can anyone get microblading done, even if their brows are thick?

Absolutely! The only times microblading is not recommended is for those with thin skin or skin conditions, as well as those who may be on medication that hinders the healing process. If you fear having an allergic reaction to the process, feel free to bring it up with your esthetician at your consultation.

Who’s the best candidate for microblading?

This question is easy! Microblading is best for those looking to get full, accentuated eyebrows that are crafted fully to fit their face. It is also best for those who enjoy a little extra help in the morning when getting ready.
